LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR COUPLES CONNECT

  1. Participants will learn how to integrate the tenets of Imago Therapy. Emotion Focused Therapy and Attachment Theory in working with couples to enliven communication and develop emotional intimacy through four interactive therapist-led interventions.

  2. Participants will learn 4 necessary components to establish safety in the dyadic relationship; Self- awareness, commitment, boundaries & empathy and accompanying exercises to facilitate skill development in each.

  3. Participants will be able to identify and assess the impact of early developmental wounds along with generational influences upon the marriage relationship.

  4. Participants will be able to identify the four styles of survival response that can present within the marriage relationship when safety is threatened, and through a self-report assessment learn each partner’s dominant self-protection style.

  5. Participants will learn how to use guided imagery to create a safe place within each partner to reduce triggering during conflict resolution.

  6. Participants will see live demonstration and practice techniques to retrieve feelings (Parent-Child Dialogue) and understand the grieving process due to relational trauma and its influence upon the marital dyad. This technique is designed to deepen empathy through an Emotion Focused experience.

  7. Participants will learn to use a self-report exercise to identify core emotional wounds through a guided worksheet and identify how it surfaces within the marriage relationship.

  8. Participants will see a live demonstration to learn a three-part model of communication based upon Imago therapy that is an Attachment based tool to re-establish both value and safety to the relationship and facilitate repair of emotional intimacy.

  9. Participants will learn how to help clients identify needed areas of change by utilizing the S.M.A.R.T.P.  acronym.

  10. Participants will learn the method – Behavioral Change Request, to ask for specific change without triggering their partner.

  11. Participants will learn the role of forgiveness in creating and maintaining emotional intimacy within marriage along with a structured model to bring resolve.

  12. Participants will learn the Flooding technique to increase emotional intimacy as a tool to restore passion by combining Positive Psychology, Emotion Focused Therapy, Music & Movement.

  13. Participants gain 17 assessments, worksheets, & techniques, along with live demonstrations, models utilizing the mediums of music and movies to instruct and engage clients with Q&A’s and group discussion throughout.
